Meanwhile, a new poll from Gallup shows Americans hungering for a third major party on the political landscape, and the lack of a Speaker of the House means that, at least for a little while, Washington Democratic senator Patty Murray would be president if, God forbid, something bad happened to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Let's all hope the White House staff is being really careful with sandbags, microphone wires, and stairs in the coming days.

GOOD: New from Gallup:
Although both parties are about equally disliked, the public chooses the Republican Party over the Democratic Party by healthy margins when asked which will better safeguard the nation’s prosperity and security.

Fifty-three percent of Americans believe the Republican Party will do a better job of keeping the country prosperous over the next few years, whereas 39% choose the Democratic Party.
A slightly larger majority, 57%, have greater faith in the Republican Party to protect the country from international terrorism and military threats, while 35% favor the Democrats.

BAD: So what's the point of Matt Gaetz's doomed motion against House Speaker McCarthy? What does it get anybody, other than more attention on Gaetz?
CRAZY: The Trump campaign formally calls for the cancellation of all future debates. Nobody votes until January 15.

The 2024 Campaign: Trump vs. Biden or Are We in for A Surprise? Oct 02, 2023

As Greg heads off on vacation, he and Jim break down the current state of the 2024 presidential campaign for Republicans and Democrats. Does Trump have a stranglehold on the GOP nomination despite big negatives with the general electorate and four major legal fights looming next year? And do his leads in some polls against President Biden undercut the DeSantis argument that he is the better bet next year?
They also dissect where the Democrats stand. Biden has a massive lead among Democrats but his polling is terrible, especially on the economy. Will Democrats roll the dice and stick with Biden in hopes Trump is even more unpopular? Will they move on to Vice President Harris, whom very few in the party seem to have any confidence in? Or will Gov. Gavin Newsom or some other Democrat emerge the worse Biden's health and poll numbers get?

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome a stunningly good poll from NBC News showing American voters trusting Republicans far more than Democrats to do a good job on the economy - the biggest edge for the GOP on this issue in 32 years. And Jim breaks down why Americans are very sour on the economy despite the Biden administration insisting that it's great. They also shudder at a Semafor report showing that Iran infiltrated the Obama and Biden administrations as well as the media to push for softer relations toward the mullahs in Iran and the pathetic Iran nuclear deal. Finally, they groan as two-thirds of Americans want to scrap the Electoral College and choose presidents based on the popular vote, and they are especially irked at the 47 percent of Republicans who say they want that. Plus, they explain the wisdom shown by our founding fathers in creating the Electoral College.
