    Show notes

The gray cloud that's been floating above the West Virginia University basketball program has become darker.
Monday's news that center Jesse Edwards will be sidelined four weeks with a fractured wrist is the latest setback.
In this episode, the "Guys" preview Wednesday's game against Radford and deal with the Edwards injury news in real-time.
Listener questions and texts complete the episode.
3 Guys returns on Friday with the preview of the Dukes Mayo bowl between WVU and North Carolina.

3 Guys Before The Game - Reinforcement Arrives (Episode 513) Dec 14, 2023
    Show notes

It's perhaps the most "fluid" episode in 3 Guys history.
The ongoing national story involving the NCAA and student-athlete eligibility was developing as the podcast was recording.
The NCAA is taking a hard line. They say student athletes will lose eligibility if they compete during a 14-day window awaiting a federal judge's ruling on a preliminary injunction.
In this episode, the issues are discussed and developed in real-time.
Listener questions and comments complete the show.

3 Guys Before The Game - Dragon Slayers (Episode 512) Dec 11, 2023
    Show notes

It was exactly what the Mountaineer basketball team needed.
Saturday's 66-60 victory over Drexel (5-4) snapped a two-game skid and sent WVU into final exams with a boost of confidence. When West Virginia (4-5) returns to action Saturday, they'll have a much-need addition to the roster. Guard Kerr Kriisa, who was suspended for the first nine games, will make his debut against UMass on Saturday.
In this episode, Brad and Tony dive into the analytics and explain why WVU earned the win.
Listener texts and comments complete the show.

3 Guys Before The Game - Blacked Out (Episode 511) Dec 07, 2023
    Show notes

It was not the night the Mountaineer basketball team had envisioned.
Pitt (6-4) shot lights out on what was billed as a "Black Out" night inside the WVU Coliseum.
The Panthers connected on 16 three-pointers to tie the record for most by an opposing team. The 80-63 win snapped the Mountaineers six-game win streak in the Backyard Brawl.
In this episode, the "Guys" review the game and preview Saturday's date against Drexel.
Listener questions and comments complete the show.

3 Guys Before The Game - Storm, Mayo, Brawl (Episode 510) Dec 04, 2023
    Show notes

A trio of topics highlights episode 510.
The "Guys" recap WVU's Friday night encounter with the Red Storm of Saint Johns, and preview Wednesday's basketball Backyard Brawl.
Brad, Hoppy and Tony also give their thoughts on the Mountaineer football team's bowl invitation.

3 Guys Before The Game - Garrett Greene Returns (Episode 509) Nov 30, 2023
    Show notes

    He's back!
Just before practice began in August, WVU quarterback Garrett Greene visited the "Guys" to preview the season.
Now, four months later, he returns. What a difference four months makes.
Greene guided WVU to an 8-win season and finished as the 7th rated quarterback nationally according to Pro Football Focus. It was a season to remember for Greene, who confirmed he would return to WVU for his final season of eligibility.
In this episode, the crew reviews the season and look ahead to the upcoming bowl game.
Listener questions and comments complete the show.
Greene's appearance on 3 Guys was sponsored by Daniels of Morgantown.

3 Guys Before The Game - Thanks For Having Us - Baylor Edition (Episode 508) Nov 27, 2023
    Show notes

If there's such a thing of stealing victory from the jaws of defeat, then West Virginia's football team did it Saturday night against Baylor.
The Mountaineers, without timeouts and the loss of star center Zach Frazier, engineered a game-winning touchdown drive to defeat the Bears 34-31.
The win gives WVU (8-4, 6-3) a fourth place finish in the Big 12. That's 10 spots better than their preseason prediction of a last place finish.
In this episode, the "Guys" recap the game and the significance of the victory. They also discuss the Mountaineer basketball victory over Bellarmine.
Listener questions and comments complete the show.

3 Guys Before The Game - Baylor Preview (Episode 507) Nov 24, 2023
    Show notes

Waco, Texas has not been a friendly place for the West Virginia football team. The Mountaineers have just one victory in the city where Doctor Pepper was invented.
On Saturday, WVU will try to earn its second Waco win over the struggling Bears. It’s a matchup between two teams heading in different directions.
The Mountaineers have won three of their last four games, while Baylor has lost four straight. To make matters worse, the Bears will also be without starting quarterback Blake Shapen who suffered an injury in last week’s loss to TCU.
In this episode, the “Guys” preview the game and present the key analytics in the matchup. The crew also discusses the Mountaineer basketball team’s Florida trip and Sunday’s matchup with Bellarmine.
Listener questions and comments complete the episode.

3 Guys Before The Game - Bearcats Bounced (Episode 506) Nov 19, 2023
    Show notes

It was a perfect day in so many ways.
Don Nehlen, the winningest coach in school history, had his name immortalized on the same day the Mountaineers routed the University of Cincinnati.
The fact that Nehlen's first college coaching job was at Cincinnati and his first victory at WVU was against Cincinnati made the day even more memorable.
Oh yeah, by the way, the Mountaineer victory gurantees WVU a winning season and gives them a chance to finish with nine wins.
Not bad for the team predicted to finish dead last in the Big 12.
In this episode, the "Guys" review the game and breakdown the grades on the final home game of the 2023 season.
Listener questions and comments complete the show.

3 Guys Before The Game - Cincinnati Preview (Episode 505) Nov 16, 2023
    Show notes

With just two regular season games remaining, the story of the 2023 West Virginia University football team still has not been written.
Victories over Cincinnati and Baylor would give WVU an 8-4 record, which would nearly double the projected wins by oddsmakers. However, wins over the Bearcats and Bears are not guaranteed.
Big 12 newcomer Cincinnati arrives in Morgantown with the second best rushing attack in the conference. Their victory over Houston last week gave them their first Big 12 win and a much-needed boost of confidence.
The Mountaineers may be without leading rusher CJ Donaldson and starting right tackle Doug Nester. WVU is favored, but a slip-up would stain the season.
In this episode, the "Guys" offer their take on the matchup and analyze the numbers on what it will take for the Mountaineers to win.
Listener comments and questions complete the show.
