Colin Cowherd Podcast - NFL Top 100, Pay Aiyuk? New Kickoff Rule, Olympics Resurgence Aug 05, 2024

Show notes

Colin is joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to talk offseason football!

They begin with trying to make sense of the NFL Top 100 rankings and Lamar Jackson being ranked higher than Patrick Mahomes (3:00). Then, they dive into the drama playing out in San Francisco and the 49ers being forced to choose whether to pay Trent Williams or Brandon Aiyuk (12:00), and Colin argues that #1 receivers are overvalued and point to Mahomes playing better WITHOUT Tyreek Hill (16:30).

They discuss the new kickoff rule and point out that if it doesn’t work, the league won’t hesitate to change it again (26:30). They debate whether JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix will have more success than the QB’s drafted higher than them because they have offensive minded coaches (35:00), and break down the vibe shift in the building for the Chargers with Jim Harbaugh as the head coach (45:00).

Finally, they talk about how NIL has changed the college football landscape and the ability of just one deep pocketed booster to supercharge a program (54:00), and the resurgence of popularity for the Olympics (01:06:00)!
