*Warning: may contain Ben’s weakest analogy* All of us “covid nurses” know how to handle a good case of ARDS. But do we know why? Or the pathophysiology of ARDS? This week, you WILL learn. ***DEFINITELY WILL BE ON CCRN*** TOPICS: ARDS, Surfactant, PEEP, Vent Settings, P/F Ratios
This week’s podcast we are talking all things proning! All of us nurses that have worker during the pandemic are definitely very proficient in this task now, but do we understand “the why”?? Buckle up for proning, paralyzing, and monitoring equipment! (TOF/BIS). - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4173887/
Okay, so maybe a bit of an exaggeration. But for real, travel nursing is a very unique area of nursing!
We are back with Season 2 of 2 Male Nurses! Get ready for an episode on one of the scariest times as nurse: Intubation. RSI medication. Confirming tube placement. Buckle up!
DKA: the gap is closed! What does this mean?!
Transfusing blood is a very dangerous procedure we do on a daily basis as nurses. We have two nurse sign-offs as a “protection” against giving the wrong blood product to the wrong patient, but the best to prevent transfusion mistakes is by knowing ABO compatibility.
Let’s take a deep dive on how steroids can be more beneficial than vasopressors on a crashing sepsis patient. “It’s not the sepsis that kills them, it is the inflammatory response”
Today, 2 male nurses will dive into the nursing care for a postoperative carotid endarterectomy. Cranial Nerves, neuro checks, BP management it is all covered! We will give you everything you need to know so you don’t have to say, “shes gonna blow!!” (Additional side note: when patient is coughing post-op cover surgical site with hand to help prevent anything for “giving out”)
This week, two male nurses will dive into the kidneys! Two amazing organs that do amazing things for the body. They will discuss BUN and Creatinine ratio, signs/symptoms of renal failure, and we approach treatment in the ICU. Learn how to provide better care for your patients and about the LASIX CHALLENGE!
There is nothing an ICU nurse loves more than a vented and paralyzed patient with no family. But, research is clear about ventilators and patient outcomes. They are a lifesaving piece of equipment, but when it is time to get off of them, it is TIME! SBT! SBT! Allowing each patient an SBT (spontaneous breathing trial) every day will allow them the opportunity to GET OFF THE VENT (when appropriate)! How can we as nurses do better in weaning our patients safely off of the vent? Listen now!
