Show notes
In this great BBC retelling of P.C. Wren's classic story Beau Geste, three orphaned brothers, Michael (nicknamed Beau), Digby, and John, join the French Foreign Legion in Algeria, Central to the story is a rare jewel called the Blue Water Diamond, which belongs to their Aunt Patricia, who is in effect, their mother. As the family meets all together for the last time before the grown boys enter the world, the now grown children ask her to bring the rare jewel out of hiding so they can gaze upon it one last time- the lights go out- and the diamond disappears.. Soon after the young brothers head for Algeria to join the French Foreign Legion, where they suffer terrible treatment from an officer who knows something of the missing diamond and suspects one of them of having it. The story is wonderfully acted and the sound production is excellent.
