Eric Robert Rudolph Dec 27, 2020
    Show notes

My intention was to take a mental break during the holidays from reading about and watching different murder kind of of stories. That didn’t last. Very long. I got wrapped up watching the Richard Jewell movie that Clint Eastwood directed in 2019. I hadn’t seen it yet, so I watched it. Then on Netflix, they released Manhunt: Deadly Games... which is about the Olympic Park Bombing that basically ruined Richard Jewell’s life for years after being falsely accused. The Netflix series focused on the piece of garbage that actually DID do it, along with his multiple other bombings. I realized that even though I’m pretty aware of the story, mostly because I live in Alabama and that’s where Eric Robert Rudolph did a lot of damage, but I was a kid at the time and kind of got tired of hearing about it on the news every day… so I tuned it out. Also, it wouldn’t be until years later that the full scope of his crimes were revealed. Most people mentally moved on as well, just assuming that Richard Jewell was guilty or at least involved. So in 2020, before reading up a lot more, I knew that the only role Jewell played that day was as a security guard that spotted the backpack that ended up being a bomb, and saving lives by alerting officers and getting people away from the blast area. But today we're talking about the actual murderer… Eric Robert Rudolph.

Gary And The Prisoner Pit Dec 16, 2020

The killer we’re talking about today, on the surface, is a complete opposite of the one we just talked about in the previous episode… Arthur Shawcross. Where Shawcross was lacking in intelligence, with a very low IQ, Gary Heidnik tested at a genius level. One thing that set him apart even more… his crimes went on to inspire the character Buffalo Bill in the movie Silence of the Lambs, a song by the band SKYND, featuring Jonathan Davis of Korn, and the 2012 movie The Factory. This is the story of Gary Heidnik..

The story we’re going to dissect today is the gold standard of examples why you have to take a long hard look before you go releasing prisoners, convicted violent offenders, back into the world with the rest of us… BEFORE they’ve served their sentence. This is the story of Arthur Shawcross.

Murder Of An Icon Dec 10, 2020

In your head right now, think of a couple of the biggest, most popular bands there have ever been. Chances are, even if you don’t personally like them… The Beatles were in the mix there. Decades after they stopped making music, they’re still huge. You hear references to them all the time. I was listening to another podcast last week, and the guest was Paul McCartney. Of course, he mentioned John Lennon and that got me thinking… what was up with the guy that killed him, Mark David Chapman. I know almost nothing about him and here I am with a true crime podcast. I figured if I knew so little, there must be some of you, like me, that want to know. Well, there’s a lot more to it than I thought… he was obsessed with a certain novel that you’ve probably read, and even had other potential alternative targets in mind.

The Starr Murders Dec 06, 2020
    Show notes

In the case we’re discussing today, if you’re searching for a motive… you're going to be out of luck. The killer never gave a reason. It’s a murder that just… happened. Thomas Starr, lived at home with his mother Lisa Fry and step-father Jeffrey Westfall, in Southington Ohio. On a Saturday night in June of 2013, Thomas stabbed his step-father in the neck with a knife. He then stabbed his mother in the neck, before running off deep into the woods near the home. His mother, still alive, but weak and bloody, managed to crawl out to the road and flag down a passerby, and they called 911 to get her some help. While that was happening, Thomas, from the woods, called 911 himself and had an interesting conversation with the operators.

So… how’s the global pandemic going for you? You good? 2020 can’t get any worse or weirder, right? Well, the story today is going to fit right into the year we’re all having. I often describe some of these cases as being like a script from a horror movie, or something out of a Hollywood studio. Today… it’s just straight up Jerry Springer.A West Virginia woman plotted with her father to kill her boyfriend, so that would free her up to get married… to her father.
