1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship Him.”

3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

Domestic violence takes place in our nation every minute of every day, occurring just about every 15 seconds. Most Americans don’t realize just how real domestic violence is and how many lives are affected by it. Most of these cases are left behind closed doors. That’s why the Domestic Violence Awareness Month was introduced to not only educate and raise that awareness but bring the support and strength that domestic violence victims need. Domestic violence awareness month was first introduced back in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic violence. It was created not only to bring more awareness to others but to connect and unify the millions of affected victims that had been battered due to domestic violence.

I walked down Melbourne Street
to hear the bands play ghoulish melodies.
Someone yelled, "I've witnessed a murder."
I saw him lurking around the corner,
and instantly noticed his sideburns.
His cape was black and wrinkled and
blood was on his T-Shirt.
People ran to see the crime scene,
but the man disappeared.
They found body parts in a brazier.
It smelled liked beans and barbecue ribs.
The police thought it was joke,
but real blood was on the rest of the corpse.
A girl identified a tall white man,
and said he drove off in an old green van.
I told an officer about the creep,
He said his name is Vampire Pete,
A famous ventriloquist,
He killed his wife by accident.
He thought she was a mannequin.
They stopped his suicide attempt,
The wicked fool had rope marks on his neck.

It was after midnight,
and I'm glad I was able to change my room.
This one was bigger and better minus the smell of cigarette smoke.
I assume they needed to shampoo the carpet.
Yet, the view of the beach was nice from the balcony.
But the rain came, then I had to leave.
The continental breakfast was cheap, so I didn't eat.
It was sort of a romantic day,

On June 19, 1865, Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, who had fought for the Union, led a force of soldiers to Galveston, Texas, to deliver a very important message: The war was finally over, the Union had won, and it now had the manpower to enforce the end of slavery. The announcement came two months after the effective conclusion of the Civil War, and even longer since President Abraham Lincoln had first signed the Emancipation Proclamation, but many enslaved Black people in Texas still weren't free, even after that day. National Poetry Month, a celebration of poetry which takes place each April, was introduced in 1996 and is organized by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. The Academy of American Poets' website Poets.org serves as a hub for information about local poetry events during the month. The organization also provides free educational resources to teachers for classroom celebrations and activities, and commissions an annual festival poster. Since 1998, National Poetry Month has also been celebrated each April in Canada. Prayer Changes Things: Prayer for Missing Persons Mar 10, 2023

In support of Women’s History Month, I’d like to bring to light that thousands of women of color have been murdered or missing. This is a global crisis. We need more than rallies and bills passed. But the powers that be can combat human and sex trafficking and arrest predators and rescue victims. This seems to be an issue based on race, so let’s not forget to pray. I posted this prayer on YouTube months ago but wanted to add it to this month’s honors. Proverbs 31:8-9 Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

The Working Poor Feb 17, 2023

Millions of people work to pay bills across the sea. This piece demonstrates the frustrations of the economy.
People living paycheck to paycheck are sometimes referred to as the working poor. Living paycheck to paycheck can occur at all different income levels. The working poor are often low-wage earners with limited skills but can include those with advanced degrees and skills. Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck because the cost of living has not increased in proportion to salaries. As the cost of living surged in 2022, the number of Americans living paycheck to paycheck jumped to 64% as of December, according to a recent report. Paycheck to paycheck is an expression describing an individual who would be unable to meet financial obligations if unemployed. Those living paycheck to paycheck predominantly devote their salaries to expenses. Living paycheck to paycheck may also mean living with limited or no savings and refer to people at greater financial risk if suddenly unemployed than individuals who have amassed a cushion of savings. Caged Bird By Maya Angelou

A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped, and his feet are tied, so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown
but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he names the sky his own.

“When Woke doesn’t Work.” We should call it the great exodus of employment, since people are quitting, interviewing, and “ghosting.” They want more of everything, so I’ve shared my takes.
In 2021, more than 42 million employees left their jobs. And between April and August 2021 alone, workers resigned nearly 20 million times, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics.
A large share of resignations came from workers on edge in their toxic workplaces or continually feeling burnt out without any relief. Working from home during the quarantine gave them time to think about what they really wanted in their career. (HR Exchange Network)

Pride Month Jun 17, 2022

Let’s talk about Pride Month.
Pride Month is a month, typically in June, dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside of the United States. Modern-day Pride Month both honors the movement for LGBTQ rights and celebrates LGBTQ culture. The concept of Pride Month began with the Stonewall riots, a series of riots for gay liberation that took place beginning on June 28, 1969. The riots began after a police raid at the Stonewall Inn a gay bar located within Lower Manhattan in New York City. Activists Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Storme DeLarverie are credited for inciting the riots, though Johnson disputes her involvement. (Wikipedia)

Mass Shootings Jun 10, 2022

A mass shooting is an incident of targeted violence carried out by one or more shooters at one or more public or populated locations. Multiple victims (both injuries and fatalities) are associated with the attack, and both the victims and location(s) are chosen either at random or for their symbolic value. The event occurs within a single 24-hour period, though most attacks typically last only a few minutes.
