BIOL101 – Principles of Biology – Liberty University Online

An examination of the fundamental principles common among living things. Emphasis is placed upon studies of the cell, energy, metabolism, reproduction, heredity, ecology, phylogeny and the diversity of life.

BIO 101 – General Biology I – Video – Dr. Paul Fitzgerald

Biology is a diverse subject with many sub-disciplines – genetics, ecology, zoology, population biology, molecular biology, and many, many more. Biology 101, together with the companion course Biology 102, is designed to provide you with the basic foundations that all of these sub-disciplines build upon. In Dr. Paul Fitzgerald’s video lectures, students will explore the fundamental characteristics of living matter from the molecular level to the ecological community in which organisms live. In short, this course is a college-level introduction to matter, energy, form, and function in living systems.

Adaptation to Climate Change

From January to March 2014, CSaP’s Inaugural Visiting Research Fellow Professor Charlie F Kennel delivered a series of seminars on adaptation to climate change, hosted by Christ’s College, Cambridge.

Professor Kennel is Vice-Chancellor and Director emeritus at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Christ’s College. Starting in January 2014, he spent three months as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy.

Sounds of the Cosmos – The University of Sheffield

Paul Crowther, Professor of Astrophysics in the Department of Physics & Astronomy provides a contemporary overview of astronomy at the Sounds of the Cosmos event during the 2014 Festival of the Mind. Talks span our own solar system, the life and death of stars, galaxies, extra solar planets and introduces future large telescope projects, and are enhanced by a wide range of beautiful images, photographs and videos, plus extracts of Holst’s Planets Suite which was performed by the Sheffield Rep Orchestra. With thanks to Stewart Campbell (Dept of Music), George Morton (conductor) and Human Studio (original visuals). The Dr. Joe Show

Are GMO’s really dangerous and should we avoid everything BPA? Teflon or stainless steel? Gluten-free, low–carb, or Paleo? Every day we face these types of questions and every day we must make a choice. A choice that comes down to science and what the evidence tells us. Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University’s Office for Science & Society, helps us answer these questions with interesting tidbits of information, historical anecdotes, fun factoids, and interviews with the experts. Educational and entertaining, guaranteed you’ll be listening and smiling at the same time.

Atomic and Optical Physics II – Wolfgang Ketterle

This is the second of a two-semester subject sequence beginning with
Atomic and Optical Physics I (8.421) that provides the foundations for
contemporary research in selected areas of atomic and optical physics.
Topics covered include non-classical states of light–squeezed states;
multi-photon processes, Raman scattering; coherence–level crossings,
quantum beats, double resonance, superradiance; trapping and
cooling-light forces, laser cooling, atom optics, spectroscopy of
trapped atoms and ions; atomic interactions–classical collisions,
quantum scattering theory, ultracold collisions; and experimental
methods.

The collection includes twenty one full lectures recorded in 27 videos.
