Intellectual Property Law Podcast Series – IP Law Podcast Series – Suffolk University

Since its inception, Suffolk Law’s IP Law Concentration has developed into one of the most comprehensive programs in the country, giving students the opportunity to take advanced courses in each branch of intellectual property law. In addition, within Suffolk’s IP concentration, our patent law specialization offers students with appropriate backgrounds in engineering or science advanced training in patent prosecution and office practice.

Suffolk’s cutting edge program is built around a core of intellectual property law, supplemented by skills-based training. Participation in the IP Law Concentration provides students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation through which to develop long term career objectives, as well as intellectual interests.

The following podcasts which discuss topical IP issues are produced by the Suffolk Journal of High Technology Law (www.jhtl.org). For questions or information about these podcasts please email jhtl@jhtl.org with the subject line “Podcast Editor.”

Capitalism: Success, Crisis and Reform – Audio – Douglas W. Rae

In this course, we will seek to interpret capitalism using ideas from biological evolution: Firms pursuing varied strategies and facing extinction when those strategies fail are analogous to organisms struggling for survival in nature. For this reason, it is less concerned with ultimate judgment of capitalism than with the ways it can be shaped to fit our more specific objectives – for the natural environment, public health, alleviation of poverty, and development of human potential in every child. Each book we read will be explicitly or implicitly an argument about good and bad consequences of capitalism.

Patent Law and Strategy for Innovators and Entrepreneurs – Stanford University

Inventors and entrepreneurs have four primary concerns related to patent law: protecting their inventions in the very early stages of product development, determining the patentability of their invention, avoiding infringement of a competitor’s patent, and leveraging their patent as a business asset.

This course provides a foundation to understand the patent system and develop strategies to build a patent portfolio and avoid patent infringement. Learn how to conduct patent searches and how to file provisional patent applications.
