Native Land Pod

In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.

In each episode, Angela, Bakari, and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country’s road to the polls.

Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim ‘Native Land.’ This isn’t just news analysis; it’s a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

Nightmare In Wisconsin: Taylor Shabusiness Trial

Taylor Schabusiness, a 24-year-old from Green Bay, Wisconsin, stands accused of charges as horrific as they are complex. She is facing the grave charge of first-degree intentional homicide, suspected of the brutal strangulation of Shad Thyrion. Furthermore, she is accused of mutilating a corpse, alleged to have dismembered Thyrion’s body in a chilling act following his death. Finally, Schabusiness is charged with third-degree sexual assault, with allegations of having engaged in sexual abuse with Thyrion’s lifeless body. Each charge carries significant weight, and together, they depict a case of severe violence and disturbing misconduct. This podcast brings you daily audio of the trial and court proceedings.

The Gilgo Beach Murders: The Case Against Rex Heuermann

For nearly two decades, the remains of young women kept turning up along the desolate stretches of Long Island — in the scrub brush off Ocean Parkway, in wooded areas out east, in places no one was supposed to find them. And for most of that time, no one was held accountable. I’m Tony Brueski, and this podcast is my deep dive into one of the most chilling serial murder cases in modern American history — the Gilgo Beach murders and the case against Rex Heuermann, the New York architect now charged with the killing of seven women spanning from 1993 to 2010.

This isn’t a case summary. It’s the full picture — the women who were allegedly targeted and discarded, the investigative failures that let a suspected killer allegedly operate in plain sight for decades, and the forensic breakthroughs that finally led to an arrest in July 2023. I break down the evidence prosecutors have built — DNA analysis, cellphone data, digital files allegedly recovered from Heuermann’s own computer — and the defense strategy aimed at dismantling it. I cover the courtroom battles, the rulings on evidence admissibility, and every development as this case moves toward its next chapter.

But more than anything, this podcast is about the women at the center of it all. Sandra Costilla. Valerie Mack. Jessica Taylor. Maureen Brainard-Barnes. Melissa Barthelemy. Megan Waterman. Amber Costello. They had names. They had people who loved them. And they deserve more than a headline.

New episodes drop regularly as the case develops. If you want to understand the Gilgo Beach murders — the facts, the failures, and what justice actually looks like when it finally shows up — you’re in the right place.

Three doors down

Three doors down: a murder, a mother and a thirty year investigation

In May 2023 David Boyd was found guilty of the brutal murder in 1992 of seven year-old Nikki Allan. Sharon Henderson, Nikki’s mother, called for a public inquiry into why it had taken the police so long to find and convict her daughter’s murderer.

When Nikki was murdered, Sharon was a single mother of four living in Wear Garth, a rundown housing estate in Sunderland. David Boyd lived a few floors above Sharon in the same block. He was known to the police. He was the kind of offender who should have been caught.

Three doors down tells the astonishing story of Sharon Henderson’s thirty year campaign to get justice for her daughter’s killing. It shines a light on police behaviour and their treatment of working class women. It’s a personal tale of trauma and resilience in the face of systemic police failure, that couldn’t be more timely.
