The Interview with Odell McCants

Who had the biggest influence on your podcasting career and why?

The biggest influence on my podcasting career has been Carey Green of Podcast Fast Track. I spent two years on the idea of podcasting. Had all the equipment, the Audacity software and even signed up for Libsyn hosting. Started listening to all of the “how to podcast experts” and found myself stuck on trying to figure it all out and getting nowhere. I discovered Carey and his podcast editing company somehow on YouTube (was still spending too much time “researching”). Gave Carey a call and he told me to get off the phone, press record and send him the file. He has been not only the editor of my show but a mentor and coach. I couldn’t do this without him and his team.

If there’s someone, past or present, that you’d love to have an opportunity to go to dinner with, who would that be and why?

I would love to have dinner with the late coach John Wooden. Not only a great basketball coach but a leader and developer of young men. I think he would have been highly successful in business too.

What is it, about your audience, that continues to surprise you?

I am always surprised by who is listening. Was recently very surprised that a leader in sports business news content said he’s a “big fan” of the show.

In one word, how would your best friends describe you? Why do you think that is?

Connector. It’s one of my strengths. I enjoy connecting others to the people, information or resources they need to know or can use.

If you had one day, completely free, away from work, no watch on, and could do whatever the hell you wanted, what would it be and why?

Sit on the beach at Shoal Bay West in Anguilla.
