The Julie Jeppson Podcast

Welcome to the JULIE JEPPSON podcast. So glad you're here. After a heartbreaking loss in the summer of 2022, my 8 kids and I are picking up the pieces of our former lives and moving forward. In this podcast, I interview Gritty Mamas from all over who have pushed, pulled, endured, persisted, insisted, and MOMINATED some pretty impossible burdens. These women are survivors and their stories deserve to be heard. My hope is that you can hear their stories and walk away inspired and uplifted by their capacity to KEEP GOING, no matter what. Because you can too. There's also hidden gems within this podcast with my own children, my parents, mental health experts, spiritual health and wellness mentors, relationship specialists, and other exceptional GRITTY professionals. I come from Grit. My ancestors are the definition of it. So here, I'm taking back my name and my power and I intend to use it to help you remember, too, of the gritty mamas who have gone before you, who will come behind you, but most of all, the gritty mama inside you. Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting

Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting takes listeners through the Olympic figure skating champions’ tumultuous, on-going, five-year quest to become a mother. Her journey began in 2018, and since then, the normally open and public athlete-turned-broadcaster has kept this often-devastating roller-coaster ride a secret. Until now. Most people have heard of in vitro fertilization (IVF), but not the often-cruel existence it forces upon its patients when complications arise. Listeners will be shocked at the vulnerability and honesty of the conversations, and the hunt for some sort of acceptable reason for Tara’s excruciatingly painful struggle to build a family will continually drive the story forward. Unexpecting will tackle uncomfortable and taboo subjects and take on the complicated issues surrounding IVF and infertility with sincerity and humor. Tara certainly didn’t predict she would be thrust into this world. But as the cliché goes, expect the unexpected. Read More

Dirt Road Democrat – The Heartland Collective

Jess Piper is the lightning rod, the shield, and the sword for those who simply need the know that their voice is not alone, but part of a broad and growing network of folks who see the same thing. Decades of failed "Red State" policies leaving generations behind as schools, jobs, and healthcare abandon poor areas. Born in rural Arkansas, Jess's own experience shape her politics. After an upbringing in a check to check household with the Church at the center, Jess made her way through college eventually becoming an english teacher. Now, Jess, a mother and grandmother, makes her home on a small farm in one of the most rural areas of northern Missouri. After more than 16 years in the classroom, Jess jumped into politics feet first with a run for office in a heavily tilted district where Jess's candidacy was the first by a Democrat in a generation. Jess has deep roots in the dirt roads of America and her politics, the creation of her experiences, serve now as a megaphone for the disaffected many who feel like they stand alone in a sea of disparate and extreme policies. Join Jess as she travels the dirt roads of American politics and helps us find the connection of the urban/rural existence of food deserts, attacks on public education, and policies that impact those with the least - regardless of their zip codes. Dear Alana,

4x nominee and WINNER at the 2024 Ambie Awards.

Host Simon Kent Fung explores the life of Alana Chen, a 24-year-old woman who disappeared from Boulder, Colorado in 2019. Alana left behind two dozen journals chronicling a deep faith, love of fashion, and dream of becoming a nun. She also harbored a secret. At 14, she confessed to her priest that she was attracted to women and was instructed not to tell her parents. Over the next seven years, Alana covertly received conversion therapy which her family believes played a role in her fate. Simon, who sought to change his sexual orientation through conversion therapy for nearly a decade in his efforts to become a priest, is compelled to understand the truth of what happened to Alana—and finally face what happened to him. “Dear Alana,” is an unraveling mystery and a poignant spiritual memoir about teenage rebellion and spiritual manipulation, the price we pay to belong and the systems that pay no price at all.

****Named one of the best podcasts of 2023 by Apple, KQED, and Lifehacker, and critically acclaimed by The Guardian, the CBC, and People Magazine.
