This episode is all about marriage, and my girl Erica Mo came thru to dive all the way into it. Of course marriage is a beautiful thing, but this episode we're getting into all the not so fun parts that people don't really talk about. Marriage isn't some willy nilly decision you can take lightly so we get into all the things you should consider before saying "I do". Jagged Edge has probably the most popular RnB wedding song in the game, "Let's Get Married", so I had to get into some of those lyrics, and one of their members super problematic life decisions. It's still a great song, and the remix is a classic 2000's bop, but after learning about the crazy things this man did, you won't be able to listen to the song the same.
A listener hit me up with an issue she recently ran into involving her husband, strippers, and snapchat, so we give our opinions and advice. The rest of the episode we talk about the origin of marriage and how it's evolved as an institution since then. Up until fairly recently, women needed to marry men in order to thrive in life, and were expected to get married and have kids. These days, women have more freedom to decide if they even want to get married, since we have more options. These days women only gotta get married if they actually want to. Divorce rates are going down, but more and more people are opting out, or at least considering their options.
We get into a very important topic that's been trending on Tik Tok, which is - weaponized incompetence. It's something that most of us are aware of, but never knew the name for, nor did we really think much into it, but it's hard to unsee once you know. Be aware of these things gives us the tools to set the right expectations, and have the difficult conversations.
Another topic we spent some time on was the scary, gross phenomenon of incel culture. There is so much biased information spread online about marriage and how men lose everything and are emasculated in marriage, so we had to address these topics and set the record straight. Women do so much in a heterosexual relationship that goes unnoticed and undervalued. Married men definitely benefit in a huge way from marriage and it needs to be recognized so that men can stop with the false narrative that there's nothing in it for them. There is a plethora of topics we got into so make sure to tune in, it's a long one full of juicy convos.
