    VFTQ 209 – Podcasting while on a legal high Dec 22, 2010
    Show notes

    Whoa… Dude… This is like so… decongestany!

This episode of VFTQ is a 18 minute long ramble through the happenings of the past few days, in which I attempt to explain why the podcast feed, for a short while, was the Occam’s Barbershop feed, among many other things.

Remember: This show runs (mostly) on YOUR donations! If you like what you hear here and want more of the same, don’t donate to me, because I screwed up. Instead, go buy some sammiches and give them to poor people.

The TR Podcast 78: The GPUs pair up, avoiding RSIs, and a special sneak preview Dec 13, 2010
    Show notes

This episode starts with two listener mail questions: KJ has a follow-up question about AMD's Zacate accelerated processing unit, and Suspenders wonders if our hours and hours of computer usage ever result in repetitive strain injuries (RSIs). After going through the mail bag, Scott and Cyril discuss what TR version 3.0 means for the design and operation of our site. Geoff is up next with a roundup of 7,200-RPM laptop drives, which addresses value for money, performance, and capacity. Finally, Scott pairs up the latest GPUs, Geoff interviews Western Digital Program Manager Kevin Kalvert, and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 570 gets a quick and to-the-point evaluation from Damage Labs.

    VFTQ 208 – Slapped with Science Dec 06, 2010
    Show notes

VFTQ should be downloaded at www.ViewFromTheQuad.com

This week on the show, we have a rather science-heavy topic load. Also, a bit of chat about TV up at the front. And I accidentally lied in the intro. Sorry about that!

Topics covered on the show include how NASA has found a new type of life (This Changes EVERYTHING!), some rather cool and scary sounding research the Chinese are doing and how Facebook are attempting to trademark the word Face. Online, at least. Also, a whole slew more!

    Show notes

So, I feel a little bit guilty about not giving you an episode of VFTQ this week, and that 40 second video doesn’t make me feel much better. So how about an episode of Occam’s Barbershop, my other podcast/radio show? Subscribe free at www.OccamsBarbershop.com to get every episode delivered to you free as we get them uploaded, or listen LIVE at www.DCUfm.com each Friday from 2PM to 3PM Irish time!

Occam’s Barbershop is a weekly program on DCUfm, which is podcasted here. New episodes are broadcast live from the heart of the DCU campus online at www.DCUfm.com on Fridays from 2PM until 3PM.

This week on the show, we talk to co-founder of Irish Skeptics in the Pub, Rebecca O’Neill, about the Pub-attending atheists, among many other deathly important matters, such as what sort of funeral she would like and whether she thinks Irish Education is out of place with it’s religion studies. She then foolishly agrees to take part in the now world-famous Occam’s Quiz, and makes a heroic effort to win the grand prize.

No VFTQ this week, instead have this Snowpocolypse video report. [Take 2] Nov 29, 2010
    Show notes

If you are having issues with the video downloading slowly in the flash player, please be aware that I am working on this with my content distribution network. It should download like the clappers if you simply download the file though.

Edit 2 – I have replaced the flash player with a HD YouTube player instead, until we get this sorted out.

No episode of View From the Quad this week because I’m tired out. Instead, have some front-of-the-line reporting on the snowpocolypse 2.0 from DCU! Filmed in iPhone 4 HD, a little bit shaky, but fun none-the-less.

Interesting fact: Every single thing about this video, other then the uploading, was done on the iPhone. Recording, editing, all done in iMovie on the iPhone. I’m rather impressed, myself!

The TR Podcast 77: iPhone Rage, special edition GPUs, and discrete audio Nov 28, 2010
    Show notes

We kick off this episode of the TR Podcast by discussing Netflix's internet-streaming-only plan, Scott's desire for an à la carte> TV world, and Jordan's record-breaking single DVD Netflix plan. We also look at the arrival of Rage on the iPhone, months before an actual console or PC release. We then delve into some good old-fashioned hardware discussion. Geoff and Cyril play tag-team with our next story: Nvidia has released the GeForce GTX 460 SE into the wild, and Cyril has the card's specs, while Geoff has the skinny on the benchmarking results. Speaking of benchmarks, Cyril goes on to bring us performance numbers from his excursion to Austin, where he got to test AMD's next-gen Brazos mobile platform and Zacate accelerated processing unit. We also take the time to explore AMD's mobile roadmap, detailing who will manufacture Zacate's successor. Later, Geoff gives us an in-depth look at two new Xonar sound cards from Asus. He details the hardware, our testing methods, the results, and declares a surprising (and very budget-friendly) favorite. Finally, Cyril gives us the low-down on BitFenix's new Survivor enclosure, explaining what excited and disappointed him in this this compact, LAN-party-friendly case.

VFTQ 207 – Nothing political at all, except cheese Nov 22, 2010
    Show notes

View From The Quad should be downloaded from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com and nowhere else, you scoundrel!

This week on View From The Quad, we have a rather packed show for you, including something that hasn’t been on the show in a fair while, rambling and story telling! (Not fiction, but still, we are getting there!)

In news stories, we cover how Facebook can trigger asthma attacks, how Richard Branson will serve as an air hostess (note ‘hostess’. I explain in the show.), I tell you how mad the TSA searchings are getting (in the show, I’m not quite sure what TSA stands for. Turns out TSA is a Polish hard rock and heavy metal band.), the single biggest threat to net neutrality, why you just can’t stop at a single slice of cheese, whether 4Chan may have finally met their match, and much more!

Right so, I’m writing these shownotes in a kitchen filled with smoke, possibly from burnt sausages or something, and my eyes are starting to sting, so let’s get this over with nice and fast. This week, I tell you how Dublin Zoo are making a monkey’s of stoping bullying, how Hasbro’s new 3D iPhone gizmo is going to fail horribly, the next biggest world ending disaster that will strike the world in about 30 years and how you can’t keep a good file sharing network down.
