The CurseCast is the official podcast of The Curse supporters group supporting New Mexico United. The CurseCast is hosted by RJ Montaño and David Carl, two of the three founders of The Curse. The CurseCast is more than just X’s and O’s of the game. Each episode aims at getting to know the guests we have each week and the impact New Mexico United, the players and coaches, and the front office has on our community.
The Curse name comes from the 10th Governor of New Mexico:
New Mexico’s 10th governor was a man named Lew Wallace. Wallace, who also famously wrote the American classic “Ben-Hur,” was a Civil War hero, sent by President Rutherford B. Hayes to govern the newly-acquired, rough-terrained territory out west.
Shortly after his arrival, Wallace wrote home to his wife in Indiana, expressing his frustration about how tough the terrain, the heat and the travel were on people that weren’t accustomed to the elements that New Mexico could force upon them.
“All calculations based on our experiences elsewhere fail in New Mexico.”
Thus, The Curse of Lew Wallace was born. We have adopted that curse as our own. What you try at home – what may work for you elsewhere – will fail when you cross our borders.
The Curse of Lew Wallace lives on.
Long live the Gov.
