    Show notes

We're back with Part 2 of our North Dakota duck hunting adventure, coming to you straight from duck camp!

This week on the Duck Gun Podcast, I'm joined by Corn Dog as we drive back to camp after a successful evening hunting and scouting to talk about our time chasing ducks in NoDak. We're sharing stories from the road, breaking down the hunts, talking scouting and setups, and discussing everything that goes into putting together a successful public land duck hunt.

From finding birds and making game plans to dealing with the challenges that come with hunting away from home, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at life in North Dakota duck camp.

These From the Road episodes are some of my favorites because they're just real conversations from camp. No studio, no scripts, just hunting stories, lessons learned, plenty of laughs, and good times with the guys.

Whether you're planning your own North Dakota duck hunting trip or just enjoy hearing stories from duck camp, pull up a chair and join us for Part 2!

The Best Trip Early Openers | Hunt Updates Sep 10, 2026
    Show notes

This week on the Duck Gun Podcast, it’s time for another Hunt Update!

Dad and I are wrapping up our teal and goose opener trip, and I’m breaking down how the hunts played out after all the traveling, scouting, and planning we talked about in the last episode. We get into the birds we found, the setups we chose, what worked, what didn’t, and some of the best moments from opening weekend.

I also talk about coming back home and jumping straight into our local early season. Waterfowl season is finally starting to open across the country, and it feels good to be back in the field putting the scouting and off-season preparation to work.

This is one of those episodes that’s less about teaching tactics and more about telling the stories exactly how they happened. The good hunts, the mistakes, the surprises, and everything that comes with the first few hunts of a new season.

Grab a seat at duck camp and enjoy another Hunt Update.

Duck Camp with Dad | Teal & Goose Opener Sep 04, 2026
    Show notes

This week on the Duck Gun Podcast, we're coming to you straight from duck camp!

After a full day of traveling and another day spent scouting, Dad and I sit down at the campsite to talk about what we've found and what we're expecting heading into the teal and early goose opener.

We break down the scouting, the birds we're seeing, our plans for opening morning, and some of the decisions that go into putting a hunt together before the first shot is ever fired. We also talk about life at duck camp, traveling to hunt with Dad, and the excitement that comes with the night before opening day.

This one is less of a traditional studio podcast and more of a conversation around camp, the scouting is done, the gear is ready, and now it's time to see if our plans actually work.

Grab a chair and join us at duck camp.

North Dakota Early Honkers | Hunt Update From the Road Aug 24, 2026
    Show notes

North Dakota Early Honker Hunt Update

The North Dakota early honker trip continues, and this time we've got some success stories to tell.

In this episode of the Duck Gun Podcast, I'm recording from the road and breaking down the second half of my North Dakota early Canada goose trip. I walk through the hunts, the scouting, the decisions we made in the field, what worked, what didn't, and how we were able to put together some solid hunts on early-season honkers.

These hunt updates are always a little different from the normal podcast. No polished how-to or perfect game plan, just an honest recap of what actually happened in the field and the lessons I took away from it.

We talk scouting, feed fields, changing goose behavior, hunt timing, setups, successes, mistakes, and plenty of stories from goose camp along the way.

If you're hunting early geese right now or getting ready for your season, hopefully there's something from these hunts that helps you put a few more honkers in the decoys.

Thanks for following along with another North Dakota trip.

    Hunt Hard. Eat Well.

Q&A from NoDak: Early Goose Hunting | On the Road Aug 20, 2026

NoDak Early Goose Q&A | On the Road

This week, I'm coming to you straight from North Dakota in the middle of my early goose hunting trip.

I'm answering your questions, sharing stories from the road, and giving you a real-time look at what I'm seeing in the field. We discuss scouting, evening flights, feed fields, hunting pressure, decoy spreads, and some of the adjustments we've had to make along the way.

There's nothing quite like chasing early-season honkers in North Dakota, and this trip has already provided plenty of lessons, surprises, and a few reminders that geese don't always read the script.

If you're getting ready for your own goose season, I think you'll take something away from this conversation.

Thanks for sending in your questions and for following along on the journey.

    As always, thanks for listening.

    Hunt Hard. Eat Well.

The Future of Duck Hunting Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

This week on the Duck Gun Podcast, I'm joined by Brad Heidel, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, to talk about the current state of duck hunting and conservation in Wisconsin.

We dive into what the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association actually does for hunters, the habitat work happening across the state, some of the biggest challenges facing Wisconsin waterfowlers, and where Brad believes duck hunting is headed in the years ahead.

We also get into some of the issues being debated by Wisconsin hunters, including hunting opportunities, access, conservation, and the role hunters need to play in protecting the future of the sport.

Finally, we talk about the upcoming 2026 Waterfowl Hunters EXPO in Oshkosh. I'll be attending this year with the Duck Gun Wild Seasonings booth, and Brad gives us a look at what hunters can expect from the Expo and why it's become a gathering place for the waterfowl community.

Whether you hunt Wisconsin every weekend or simply care about the future of waterfowl hunting, there's plenty in this conversation for you.

Could This Change Duck Hunting Forever? | Dr. Mike Brasher & Dr. Scott Stephens Aug 05, 2026
    Show notes

This week on the Duck Gun Podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Mike Brasher and Dr. Scott Stephens from Ducks Unlimited to discuss one of the most important conservation issues facing duck hunters today.

Recent proposals involving prairie potholes and wetlands have sparked concern across the waterfowl community, but what do these changes actually mean? In this conversation, we separate fact from fiction and take a deep dive into why the Prairie Pothole Region is known as North America's Duck Factory, how these wetlands drive duck production, and what the proposed changes could mean for the future of waterfowl hunting.

We also discuss the relationship between agriculture and conservation, common misconceptions surrounding the proposal, and—most importantly—what hunters can do to help protect the habitat that produces the ducks we all enjoy chasing each fall.

This isn't a political conversation. It's a conversation about ducks, habitat, and ensuring future generations have the same opportunities we've been fortunate enough to experience.

If you'd like to learn more about the Prairie Pothole Region, support Ducks Unlimited's conservation efforts, or take action regarding the current wetland proposal, visit the Ducks Unlimited action page here:

Ducks Unlimited Prairie Pothole Region & Conservation Action

Whether you're a Ducks Unlimited member, a public land hunter, or simply someone who cares about the future of waterfowl hunting, this is an episode you won't want to miss.
