Scott Sigler’s Galactic Football League (GFL) Series

The GFL is a “Space Opera” series of books described as STAR WARS meets THE BLINDSIDE meets THE GODFATHER.

Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, THE ROOKIE is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of “Any Given Sunday” with the space opera style of “Star Wars” and the criminal underworld of “The Godfather.” Aliens and humans alike play positions based on physiology, creating receivers that jump 25 feet into the air, linemen that bench-press 1,200 pounds, and linebackers that literally want to eat you. Organized crime runs every franchise, games are fixed, and rival players are assassinated.

This multi-part scifi/crime/sports mashup follows a professional American football team across a far-future galaxy. Travel to new worlds, meet new races, and put their quarterback into the dirt.

Each novel and novella in the series is or will have its own season, so be sure to start from the beginning.

Follow the story of Quentin Barnes, a 19-year-old quarterback prodigy who has been raised all his life to hate and kill those aliens. Quentin must deal with his racism and learn to lead, or he’ll wind up just another stat in the column marked “killed on the field.”

SYNOPSIS:

Amidst the brutality of the French and Indian War, an officer in the legendary Rogers’ Rangers is thrust into a nightmare that will challenge both his leadership and his lifelong quest to leave his father’s heritage behind. Lieutenant Geoffrey Rapelje is tasked with guiding a ranger detachment to his birthplace to preserve a fragile treaty between the British and his father’s people.

What Geoffrey finds is not the idyllic village of his youth, but a land—and a tribe—ravaged by a vicious, unknown force.

He and his rangers embark on a harrowing journey across a North American wilderness beset by violence, betrayal, and inexplicable terrors. To defeat a genocidal enemy, Geoffrey must embrace a dark truth he has long denied.

THE GANGSTER (GFL Book VI) | Ep. 8 Jul 31, 2026

Show notes

In Book V, THE CHAMPION, Doc Patah told Quentin that his throwing arm’s nerve damage was too severe to be repaired and that his gridiron career was over. Quentin threatened Patah to keep that information secret so that Gredok the Splithead would not find out. Quentin later talked to GFL chief surgeon Doc Ganagatti, who said Quentin had one chance to repair his arm — an experimental procedure that can only be done at Ganagatti’s sports medicine clinic in New York City on Earth. As Quentin, Becca, Fred, and Choto raise a toast to their fallen coach, Hokor the Hookchest, the quartet prepares for a trip to the Sol System.
