Today's Oddcast - In the Land of Lies with Sean Kipe (Airdate 9/16/2022)
Did a police officer in Georgia execute a 53 year-old woman in cold blood for $7000? That's what prosecutors in Gwinnett County, Georgia argued happened in April 1993. Found dead in her car with two gunshot wounds in the back of her head, Emogene Thompson's murder made no sense. Making even less sense? The man ultimately charged and convicted with the crime was a well-regarded family man, business owner, veteran, and police officer. Michael Chapel has been in prison now for 29 years. When you look at the fact of the case, it's hard to agree that justice has been served. From missing files to destroyed evidence to questionable investigation of alibis, something is very, very wrong in this case. Podcast creator Sean Kipe joins us to talk about his latest show, In the Land of Lies. He also updates us on his previous investigations: Fox Hunter, and In the Red Clay. Don't miss this episode, fellow true crime fans!
