Cowboys' spiraling defense, CFB in Texas and what's Walcott's future with Rangers? Oct 14, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Joe Hoyt discuss the further decline of the Cowboys' defense and what it says that they're bringing in an old pal to help out Christian Parker. Evan says they should have done it sooner. Kevin says no team with Super Bowl intentions needs a defensive coordinator to grow into the job. Joe says not to expect any big improvements anytime soon. Kevin and Evan look back at Texas-OU as well as Mike Elko's outburst after another loss by Texas A&M, then give their takes on the SEC, Big 12 and ACC races. And Evan breaks down a future for Sebastian Walcott and how that fits with the Rangers'.

Cowboys' small steps, farewells and Texas-OU, the state's best annual sporting event Oct 07, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Joe Hoyt discuss the Cowboys' 34-30 come-from-behind win over Houston. Joe tells us that, until further notice, the Cowboys will have to score 30 points a game to win. The good news is, they can do that, especially in a weak NFC East. Bad news: The defense isn't close to league average, and might never rise to that level this year. The guys cite the passings of Dennis Franchione, former head coach at both TCU and Texas A&M, and Jim Ray Smith, a world-class lineman at Baylor and in the NFL who served several decades with the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association. Kevin and Evan also lay out the possibilities for an upset of No. 1 Texas (Hint: not good) and what to do if your friend or loved one puts ketchup on a corny dog.

SportsDay Rangers, Episode 58: A.J. Pierzynski | What's next | Most disappointing seasons in history Oct 02, 2026
    Show notes

With the Rangers officially out of the playoffs, John and Evan discuss the disappointing end to a disappointing season and break down Chris Young's end-of-season presser where he ran through a long list of attributes the Rangers lacked. Then they tackle the big question: How do the Rangers address all that? Former Rangers catcher and current FOX analyst A.J. Pierzynski joins the guys to discuss the playoffs, the national perception of the Rangers season and A.J.'s 2013 season with the Rangers. Did he and Yu Darvish really have words? Why didn't he return for 2014? Finally, John and Evan review the most disappointing seasons in Rangers history. Evan's got a pretty spectacular runaway winner.

Questioning merits of Cowboys, Rangers, Stars and Texas CFB Sep 30, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant discuss the chaotic ending of the Cowboys' visit to Rio and the poor decisions that resulted in a loss to the Ravens. Was Dak Prescott unduly influenced by his coach's warning? Did Brian Schottenheimer make a mistake electing to kick through the end zone after the tie? Are the Cowboys a smart team? Evan also tells us how Chris Young, Rangers president, challenged his team's "grit" and "toughness" in a season-ending exit presser. Lia Assimakopoulos joins the guys to talk about the Stars, who drop the puck Friday. And Kevin and Evan analyze the highs and lows of a crazy SEC season, especially as it regards Texas and Texas A&M.

Defenseless Cowboys, Zombie Rangers and wild, wild CFB Sep 23, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Calvin Watkins discuss the Cowboys' win over a Washington team missing Jayden Daniels in the second half Sunday. Calvin says he saw progress in Christian Parker's defense, but they still can't stop the run. Is that Parker's fault, or is it personnel? Calvin shares his thoughts. Evan, who coined the moniker "Zombie Rangers" to describe a team that keeps coming back from the dead, tells us just how far he thinks they can go if they hold on to first in the West. And Kevin and Evan share their thoughts on college quarterbacks, bad losses by teams from Texas and CFP chances at this point.

SportsDay Rangers, Episode 57: Josh Hamilton | Final countdown | Awards season Sep 23, 2026
    Show notes

John and Evan are back with an EMERGENCY drop of the pod to account for the crucial final week of the season. We wonder how Skip Schumaker is going to navigate what's left of his starting rotation and the job he's done in that regard. Then we welcome in Josh Hamilton, who had a hand in so many Rangers postseasons. We talk about him closing out his career with the Rangers with a heroic final week in 2015, that dropped ball in 2012 and the voice that helped him retire. We also want to know, since Prince Fielder is already on board, will Hamilton participate if we can drum up a Rangers Legends Home Run Derby?

SportsDay Rangers, Episode 56: Ruben Sierra | Final push | Last 20-game winner Sep 18, 2026
    Show notes

As the Rangers approach the final 10 games of the season, John and Evan sit down in the newly redesigned Sports Day studio to sort through the all-hands-on-deck approach to pitching the Rangers have lately employed and the impact of Josh Jung's return to the lineup. Then Rangers Hall of Famer Ruben Sierra joins to talk about Roberto Clemente (and playing baseball with Roberto Clemente Jr.), what it was like to wear No. 21 as a Puerto Rican star, his rise to stardom in Texas (and his later happy reunion) and teaching hitting lessons. Also: His return to Salsa singing. And, hey, John, when are we getting a Ruben Sierra bobblehead? Finally, we tip our hats to the last time a Ranger won 20 games. Will there ever be another?

Cowboys, Rangers and other zombies, plus Texas' big win Sep 16, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Calvin Watkins discuss the Cowboys' opening-night flop against the Giants and whether it was just first-game jitters or a sign of bigger problems. Is Christian Parker's message getting through to the defense? Are they still undermanned at middle linebacker? Is the offense overrated? Evan explains how the Rangers are still in the playoff hunt even though no one seems to be chasing anyone. Just moving like zombies. And Kevin describes the scene in Austin, where at least two people got signature wins and 100,000 people went home deliriously happy.

SportsDay Rangers, Episode 55: Prince Fielder | Rotation tweaks | 9/11 memories Sep 11, 2026
    Show notes

With just over two weeks to go in the crawl for the playoffs, John and Evan break down the fluid situation in the Rangers' rotation as they try to manipulate things to maximize new-found ace Cal Quantrill's starts. Also, Evan makes the point: This team can't get where they want to get without Wyatt Langford's bat coming to life. Then 10 years after a second neck surgery forced him to retire, Prince Fielder joins the guys to discuss having to abruptly call it quits. Also: Now that's he's participated in a Brewers' legends Home Run Derby, could he do the same with the Rangers? And he's having fun following his son's pursuit of a baseball career. And finally, as the 25th anniversary of 9/11 arrives, John and Evan discuss what it was like when the Rangers were stuck in San Francisco when the terror attacks happened.

Cowboys without Smith, Rangers need Langford and wild, wild college football Sep 09, 2026
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Joe Hoyt analyze the impact of Tyler Smith's absence from the Cowboys' offensive line for a month or more. Joe notes that T.J. Bass is a serviceable backup at left guard, but it leaves a thin line on the verge of snapping if anyone else goes down. How does that impact their chances of making the playoffs? Evan tells us that if the Rangers want to make the playoffs, they need a hot streak, which means they need Wyatt Langford to match Corey Seager's bounceback. And the guys discuss a wild first CFB weekend in which SMU pulled out a win despite four turnovers on the road, Texas and Texas A&M dominated and Will Hammond made Texas Tech's loss of Brendan Sorsby at least palatable. Is Arch Manning ready for Ohio State this week? Tune in and find out.
