BREAKS SILENCE: The Most Annoying Tabloid Phrase In Journalism Oct 24, 2026
    Show notes

In a The New York Times Magazine essay, writer Nitsuh Abebe examines the tabloid headline staple “breaks silence” and argues that it carries more baggage than many readers realize. The essay isn't really about celebrities. It's about how language influences readers. Abebe argues that the phrase “breaks silence” turns privacy into a story, implying that people have a duty to comment publicly when, in many cases, they don't.

The Justice Department is investigating whether Corey Lewandowski's actions while serving as a senior DHS adviser were tied to improper contracting practices or personal financial benefit. The inquiry stems from a DHS inspector general referral, remains in its early stages, and no charges have been filed. Lewandowski denies any wrongdoing.

SCOTT PRESLER: Influencer Accused Of Letting Nonresidents Vote Oct 23, 2026
    Show notes

Mediaite, citing a report by The Bulwark, reports that conservative activist and election-integrity advocate Scott Presler is facing scrutiny after voter-registration records allegedly showed three people unrelated to him used his Pennsylvania home address to vote in the 2024 election.

The WSJ story highlights a growing disagreement between Washington and Kyiv. While Trump says Starlink access has been restored, Ukrainian officials and soldiers say key restrictions remain, limiting drone operations and battlefield communications at a critical time in the war with Russia.

LINDSEY GRAHAM: Video Allegations Involving The Late Senator Resurface Oct 23, 2026
    Show notes

The New York Times video report focuses on the release of a documentary alleging that the late Lindsey Graham engaged in paid sexual encounters with men. The allegations have generated significant online attention, but they remain unproven, and the documentary has fueled debate as much about politics and timing as about the claims themselves.

A quick-thinking Minnesota man jumped onto a moving school bus after spotting the driver suffering a medical emergency, pulled the brake, and safely stopped the vehicle. Officials say his actions likely prevented a serious accident and helped protect nearly 20 children aboard.

ELECTIONS: Tennessee Reports Ballot Issues & Russia Emerges As an Issue Oct 23, 2026
    Show notes

Some Tennessee voters reported touchscreen ballot-marking devices initially highlighting the wrong candidate, but election officials say voters were able to correct selections before casting ballots. At this point, officials say the complaints are consistent with touchscreen calibration or input issues and do not constitute evidence of election fraud or vote manipulation.

The New York Times portrays the Texas Senate race as part of a larger national debate over Russia, Ukraine, and America's role in the world. While voters remain focused on kitchen-table issues, both campaigns are increasingly using foreign-policy arguments to define their opponents heading into the final stretch before Election Day.

Federal prosecutors have charged Louise Lucas with leading an alleged illegal marijuana and money-laundering operation involving family members and associates. Lucas denies the allegations and says the case is politically motivated. The charges have not been proven, and the case will now move through the federal court system.

CALIFORNIA HIGH-SPEED RAIL: 130,000 Pages Of Environmental Reviews Oct 22, 2026
    Show notes

The City Journal article makes a broader policy argument: California's environmental-review process has become so complex that it significantly hinders major infrastructure projects. Its key evidence is that the high-speed rail project has generated more than 130,000 pages of environmental documentation and hundreds of millions of dollars in review costs while the rail line remains unfinished nearly 20 years after voter approval.
