The Things We Miss When We're Worried Nov 03, 2026
    Show notes

What if we've become so good at noticing everything that's wrong that we're missing much of what's good? When worries and responsibilities crowd our minds, it's surprisingly easy to move through an entire day without noticing the beauty and goodness God has placed right in front of us.

In this episode, we'll explore what Jesus teaches us about where to direct our attention and how we can become more practiced at recognizing God's presence in everyday life. You'll discover a simple way to interrupt the cycle of worry, lift your eyes, and begin seeing more of God's goodness right where you are, even when your circumstances haven't changed.

💡Today's Big Idea: We can become as practiced at noticing God's goodness as we are at noticing what's wrong.

⚡️Today's Small Step: Sometime today, pause and physically lift your head. Look around you, and pray one simple prayer: Lord, help me notice Your goodness here.

The Conversation You've Stopped Having With God Oct 27, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever quietly stopped talking to God about something because you were too disappointed, confused, or hurt to know what to say? You still pray. You still believe. But there's one part of your life you've stopped bringing into the conversation.

If you've ever felt the need to sort through your emotions before approaching God, this episode offers a tender reminder of how He meets us in our most difficult moments. You'll discover a fresh perspective on His love and an invitation to return to the conversations you've been avoiding, even when you don't have the words or the answers.

💡Today's Big Idea: Love stoops. God comes near first.

⚡️Today's Small Step: Stop editing. Just begin the conversation.

The Mythical Land of Caught Up Oct 20, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever had the nagging feeling that you should be further along by now?

There's always another project to finish, another goal to reach, another area of life that could use your attention. And somewhere along the way, everything we could do can quietly start feeling like something we should have already done.

In this episode, you'll learn why growth can actually make us feel more behind, and what Jesus' words in John 17 teach us about the difference between everything that could be done and the work God has actually given us to do.

💡Today's Big Idea: Before you decide you're behind, check the finish line.

How to Stop When There's Still More to Do Oct 13, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever tried to stop and spend time with God, only to have your brain immediately remind you of seventeen things you should be doing instead?

The email really does need an answer. The project really does need finishing. The people you love really do need care. So how do you stop when so much still legitimately needs doing?

In this episode, we'll explore what a sleeping farmer, a few busy squirrels, and a quiet day with God can teach us about our limits and God's ongoing care.

You'll also learn a simple two-column practice for giving those persistent thoughts somewhere to go so you can return your attention to Jesus.

💡Today's Big Idea: Unfinished does not mean unattended. God is still at work when you are not.

⚡️Today's Small Step: The next time you stop to be with God and you get distracted, grab a piece of paper and make two columns: Mine to consider later, and God's to take care of. As each thought comes, give it somewhere to go. Write down what genuinely needs your attention later. Entrust to God what only He can carry.

How Will I Ever Have the Strength for This? Oct 06, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever looked at something hard in front of you and wondered, Do I have what this is going to take?

That's the question I've been carrying since Ron and I received some difficult news this summer.

When I look too far down the road, the math simply doesn't work. I can imagine what may be required someday, take inventory of the strength I have today, and quickly come up short.

But God has been taking me back to the story of David in 1 Samuel 30 and one small, powerful sentence:

"But David found strength in the Lord his God."

In this episode, we'll explore what David did when he had no strength left, why our history with God matters in seasons we never would have chosen, and the question that is helping me return to the grace God is actually giving for today.

A small personal request: We deeply appreciate your prayers, love, and encouragement for Ron and me. We have a medical team and a plan we feel confident about, so please don't send medical research or advice, treatment recommendations, books, or podcasts. Your prayers and kindness mean so much to us.

💡Today's Big Idea: When life asks more of us than we feel able to give, receive God's grace for today.

⚡️Today's Small Step: Take five quiet minutes with Jesus and ask: Jesus, what does trusting You look like here, with this, today?

The Diagnosis We Never Wanted to Hear Sep 29, 2026
    Show notes

In 1979, Ron and I stood in a little church in Chicago and promised each other for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse.

We meant every word. We just had no idea what those words would eventually hold.

This summer, after months of testing, appointments, and waiting, Ron and I received a diagnosis we never wanted to hear.

In this deeply personal episode, I'm sharing a little of how we got here, what life looks like for us right now, and what God is teaching me about covenant, presence, and staying in the day we've actually been given.

A difficult diagnosis can make it remarkably easy to "grieve forward," imagining losses and difficulties that haven't happened yet. I'm learning to come back to the man I love who is right here, right now, and to the deeper truth that whatever the future holds, we will never experience it apart from Christ.

A small personal request: We are deeply grateful for your prayers, love, and encouragement. We have a medical team and a plan we feel confident about, so please don't send medical research, treatment recommendations, books, podcasts, or other medical advice. Your prayers and kindness are more than enough, and we appreciate them very much.

Encore: When the Way Is Unclear Sep 08, 2026
    Show notes

Imagine sitting in a small, dimly lit room, your heart pounding as you wait for something painful that may or may not happen—a shock, literally. The uncertainty of not knowing when, or even if, it will strike hangs over you like a storm cloud. Then, you're presented with a choice: wait it out or press the button and shock yourself right now to end the waiting. What would you do? Surprisingly, a study from the University of Virginia found that many people chose to endure the pain immediately rather than face the discomfort of uncertainty. This fascinating insight gives us a glimpse into how we handle the unknown—and how much we fear it.

What if we could embrace the unknown as a space where we slow down, notice God, and trust the process, rather than rushing into action? Today, we're exploring how to find peace and grace in seasons where the way forward isn't clear, and why it's okay to not have all the answers.

    Tune in to learn:

    • How to navigate uncertainty with grace and patience.
    • Why forcing action can increase stress rather than relieve it.
    • The benefits of slowing down and noticing God's presence in the unknown.
    • Practical ways to trust God when you don't have a clear plan.
    • How embracing uncertainty can open the door to new possibilities and deeper trust.
    • Uncertainty might be uncomfortable, but it's also where we can experience the wonder of walking with God, one step at a time.

💡Today's Big Idea: When the way is unclear, God is still near.

⚡️Today's Small Step: Pause in the midst of your uncertainty and just notice and enjoy what God has for you there.

Encore: The Grace-Filled Work of Not Giving Up Aug 25, 2026
    Show notes

What do you do when your best efforts seem to disappear into thin air?

You pour out your heart, offer your gifts, share your message… and hear nothing but crickets. A few people cheer, but momentum fizzles. Others smile politely, but their eyes are elsewhere. And the silence makes you wonder, Is any of this making a difference?

In today's episode, we explore a deeper, grace-paced way of looking at our work—especially when it feels like nothing is working.

    Together, we'll talk about:

    • The quiet heartbreak of unnoticed effort
    • What Jesus did when people misunderstood or rejected Him
    • The kind of fruit that grows slowly, deeply, and sometimes invisibly
    • How to stay faithful when the results don't show up right away

    You'll be encouraged to rethink:

    • What success really means
    • How God's grace reshapes our expectations
    • Why the work you're doing—right now—matters more than you know

    ***

💡Today's Big Idea: We're not responsible for the soil, only the sowing.

⚡️Today's Small Step: Name one area where you've been discouraged in your ministry or creative work. Then, instead of measuring impact, ask: What does faithfulness look like here today?

Week by week, step by tiny step, we'll unpack and savor one small aspect of grace and leave with one small step to take.

That's it. No stress, no strain, just a simple invitation to join me as together we learn to live and work at the Pace of Grace.
