What is a kakistocracy, in the world of work ? Sep 27, 2026
    Show notes

We spend a good deal of our time at work, 35 hours a week or more. It's an integral part of our lives, so if you can it's always best to surround yourself with good colleagues. They make work not only more enjoyable but stimulating.

Their support and collaboration also helps to create a positive environment where teamwork leads to tackling problems and finding solutions. However, when we don't get along with our co-workers, time moves slowly, worse still is when you find yourself compensating for their shoddy work or having to work around them. But by far the worst situation is when the problem of incompetence comes from above. This situation has a name: the working environment becomes a kakistocracy.

What does it mean? How do incompetent people get to positions of power in the first place? Is it possible to overthrow a kakistocracy? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do dogs often look like their owners? Sep 27, 2026
    Show notes

Numerous archaeological findings have suggested that dogs were the first animals to be domesticated by humans over 20,000 years ago. So it’s little surprise that in this day and age, 29% of UK adults own a dog. That’s according to 2023 data from vet charity PDSA.

If you have a dog, you may have been told that you share physical characteristics with it, a sort of family resemblance if you like. Well, as it turns out, this popular belief might be more than just a myth.

Is there any scientific evidence behind that ? But how does this all add up ? What about other types of pet animals ? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do we get moles? Sep 27, 2026
    Show notes

The number of moles we have on our bodies largely depends on sun exposure. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Most people have 10 to 45 moles that appear during childhood and the teenage years.” Moles can vary in thickness, shape, colour, and they sometimes even have hair. They can pop up between your toes, on your scalp, on your earlobes or under your nails-anywhere really.

Rest assured, most of the time these small brown spots are completely harmless, but still it’s worth knowing some key info about moles. That's especially true given they can sometimes be cancerous, turning into a type of skin cancer called melanoma. According to Cancer Research UK, “there are around 16,700 new melanoma skin cancer cases in the UK every year.”

What are moles actually made of ? Which genetic factors are at play then ? How can you tell if a mole is dangerous ? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Could the 6-1 method help you save money on groceries? Sep 26, 2026
    Show notes

As of March 2024, the UK inflation rate stood at 3.2%, well below the record levels that had been seen a year prior. But still the cost of living crisis is biting and grocery shopping is one of the areas in which prices rose the most across 2022 and 2023.

Thinking of ways to save on groceries has become really important and we’ve got a special tip for all of you listening today. The 6-1 method comes from renowned American chef Will Coleman. Let’s listen to him talking about it in a Tiktok post in January 2024, which has been liked over 150,000 times at the time of recording.

What does the 6-1 method entail then? Does the 6-1 method actually work though? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Could SMART goals help you reduce stress? Sep 26, 2026
    Show notes

All personal development coaches emphasise the importance of setting goals, even ones that may seem out of reach at first. Doing so not only boosts motivation but also enables gradual achievement.

Nowadays a lot of people find this kind of approach almost second nature, but others struggle with it. A fear of failure, workplace anxiety, and a lack of self-confidence can make ambition seem unattainable.

What does the S.M.A.R.T. acronym stand for then? But is goal-setting actually an effective approach? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do men often wake up with an erection? Sep 26, 2026
    Show notes

A lot of people think that morning erections are triggered by erotic dreams, or a need to pee, but in fact they're a physiological reflex linked to sleep. That’s right - they’re not dependent on sexual arousal at all.

And in a somewhat similar way, women actually also experience increased blood flow to the clitoris during the night. Now, the scientific term for a nighttime erection is nocturnal penile tumescence, or NPT for short, and men get a few each night on average. They occur during REM sleep phases, which make up around 20% of total sleep time.

What exactly is REM sleep? Are you saying it’s an involuntary reflex then? What if I stop experiencing morning erections? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Who are the "passport bros" travelling abroad to find love? Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Finding love isn’t always easy and sometimes the search takes people abroad. That's certainly the case for “passport bros”, who we're going to talk about today.

The term generally refers to men, particularly from North America and Europe, who travel abroad in search of relationships. Countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia are frequently promoted in their online communities. And their reason for seeking love abroad is because they believe their desired kind of partner has become too difficult to find at home.

What kind of partner are passport bros looking for then? Why has the passport bro phenomenon grown in recent years? Are we saying that all men looking to find a partner abroad are passport bros? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Can plate colour really affect our sense of taste? Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Surely nothing affects taste other than what you actually put in your mouth, right?! Well actually no, that’s not true - at least according to a study published in December 2022 in Food Quality and Preference. The researchers behind that found that the colour of our dishware might influence our perception of taste. And it’s not the first study of its kind; I’m going to tell you about other similar ones in just a moment.

Well, the Food Quality and Preference study was conducted by researchers at the University of Portsmouth . They gathered 47 students to participate, splitting them into two groups: picky and non-picky eaters.

That’s crazy! How did these studies work then? What other studies have been done in this area then? What’s the point of all this research? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Is a white tongue unhealthy? Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

A white coating on the tongue can occur when your health is compromised, like during a cold or fever. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol, and too much sugar, coffee, tea, or dairy can also contribute to this by disrupting the balance of your oral microbiota or affecting saliva production.

In most cases, it’s an accumulation of bacteria and dead cells, a condition known as saburral tongue or white patches. This coating can often be removed by gently using a tongue scraper. However, other factors can lead to a thicker coating, localized patches, or even a metallic taste in the mouth.

What exactly causes the tongue to turn white? Could this be a sign of infection? What about other health implications? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

How long do people have sex for? Sep 24, 2026
    Show notes

Popular fantasy might suggest that we need to have hours of sex in order to be satisfied, but is that actually true? A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2005 looked into intravaginal ejaculation latency time among 500 heterosexual couples from five different countries. Now intravaginal ejaculation latency time might sound like a complicated term, but basically it just means how long penetration lasts, so foreplay doesn’t count as sex under that definition.

Having gathered survey answers from all the couples involved, the researchers noted that sex duration varied significantly, lasting as little as 33 seconds in some cases or as long as 44 minutes. But they were able to work out that the average duration was 5.4 minutes. A lot less than some people might think!

Is 5.4 minutes really long enough to have satisfying sex though? How long does foreplay last then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
