Before school a few days ago, I overheard my first-grader arguing with his 16-year-old brother, Brett. It was obvious my little one was getting more and more annoyed at the antics of his older brother and was about to lose it. Finally, in a moment of utter fury, my little one said to Brett in his most indignant voice, “you’re not one of father Abraham’s many sons.”
It took all I had not to burst out laughing as I thought to myself, tell me you’re growing up in a Christian home without telling me you’re growing up in a Christian home. You know a lot about a person when their biggest zinger in a verbal fight ends with a reference to a VBS song.
But there’s something to be said about a faith that’s so automatic, it comes out without even thinking. And that’s a big part of why we’re starting Monday morning podcasts TODAY! 🎉
Drum roll please . . . . every Monday (beginning today) we will release a short 10 to 15 minute podcast where we talk about our spiritual rhythms and how to do things today that will draw us closer to the Lord tomorrow.
We will spend each month talking about topics such as studying our Bible, praying, worshiping, and . . . . . you get the point.
But today, we’re going to kick-off this series considering three questions from Mason King’s book called A Short Guide to Spiritual Disciplines:
Who do you hope to become? Who are you becoming today? How do you think God describes you right now?
Please take a minute to consider these questions and listen to today’s episode. And then join me each Monday as we get back to the basics, exploring routines that will grow us closer to God.
P.S. Can I ask you to share this email and podcast with a friend? Find a person or even a group who will commit with you to grow our spiritual rhythms over the next few months. I would be so grateful to have you and your people join me and I have a feeling you will be so glad you put yourself out there too!
