    The Maverick Observer

Founded in 2020 by Tim Hoiles, The Maverick Observer is a start-up news source for Colorado Springs, El Paso County and Colorado. Sprung from a deep history in media, we not only
discuss politics, but we also have a passion for food, drinks, business, and views. Commercial media interests, conflicts of interest in ownership and the pursuit of ratings and readership have distorted our news.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and are committed to conflict-of-interest-free news. We may take a perspective, but we will never ignore, cancel, or omit the other side. We hope you find our
information useful, enlightening, and entertaining. Who does not need a good belly laugh occasionally? Come engage with us on all the topics of the day, whether they are the hottest tacos or the latest decisions of the Colorado Springs City Council and the mayor.

Our mission is to educate, inform, engage, stimulate, and connect with our readers, while striving to preserve our honesty and integrity with dignity and honor. We are all best suited when we form our own opinions, assume responsibility for our own actions, and engage in our own passions.

Our vision is community engagement and voicing differing opinions within a standard of tolerance. The Maverick Observer is devoted to our liberty and freedoms as a Fourth Estate news entity, the watchdog over government and business. We believe in the principles outlined by our founding fathers in the
Declaration of Independence and the rights of all Americans as framed by the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Our liberty and individual freedoms are what allow the diversity of thought which has been the bedrock of social, political, and commercial innovations making our world a better place for us all.

    Show notes

On this episode of The Maverick Observer podcast, we are focusing on local issues in Colorado Springs and Monument. Local issues can affect you quicker and more personally than federal issues. Tim will discuss the strong mayor concept and how it's going, and Katie will focus on water issues in Monument and the impact of more developments on this diminishing resource. We will end the show debating our favorite adult beverages and maybe introduce you to a new libation.

    • The Associate Director of Hydrologic Studies at the USGS Colorado Water Science Center, Suzanne Paschke conducted a large-scale multidisciplinary study of groundwater availability in the Denver Basin Aquifer System. The study found, "Bedrock groundwater storage is being depleted in the Denver Basin. While the length of time over which this resource may be available is uncertain, the conclusions of this and other studies indicate that pumping from the Denver Basin bedrock aquifers is not indefinitely sustainable and that renewable water supplies will be needed in the future." Some models showed the basin going dry in 50 years depending on growth and pumping.

    • “We had one well that was producing initially around a hundred gallons a minute. We're lucky to get 40 gallons a minute out of it right now,” said Jessie Shaffer, who manages the Woodmoor Water and Sanitation District in the northern part of the county. “It's really a diminishing return that you get on Denver Basin groundwater these days,” Shaffer said. “Every well you drill, you get less and less yield out of, and it takes more and more wells just to maintain your current level of water supply that you need to have in sufficient level to serve your community, which means more money, more capital improvement projects, and more costs, higher water rates.” — Colorado Public Radio

Episode 2: Local Ethnic Food & The Topic Of Abortion Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

On this episode of The Maverick Observer podcast, we are introducing you to sushi at two family-friendly restaurants in our local area; we will end today's podcast, however, on a controversial issue, abortion and devaluing our kids. We understand this is a complex issue gripping our nation and not easy to discuss. We hope our conversation today will encourage future openness in our discussions.

    • “I think the reason that all those men are carrying signs is that abortion absolves them from having to help support their irresponsible behavior. After 50 years of birth control that can be bought over the counter, there shouldn’t be 90,000 abortions a year. It all comes down to responsibility, but hey, we have to remember, this is the crowd that is taught men can get pregnant too. Talk about dumbing down America and who is falling for it.” nooneabovethelaw319 5/15/2022
