This is the most requested case we've ever received.

Chris Watts murdered his pregnant wife Shanann and their two young daughters, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste on August 13, 2018.

Shanann was reported missing by a friend, Nickole, who was one of the last people to see her alive.

After she failed to respond to text messages, Nickole had gone to the family home and there was no response. She then rang Chris who came home from work.

She also called Police who were there when Chris arrived.

In this episode we continue our psychological profile on Fidel Lopez.

On 20 September 2015 twenty-four year old Fidel Lopez called 911 from his Miami apartment asking for help for his partner, 31year old Maria Nemeth -- whom he said he had found unconscious.

When Police arrived his claims quickly fell apart... a glass screen door had been smashed, there were punched holes in the wall and blood throughout the apartment.

Worse, Maria's intestines were strewn throughout.

We left off with Lopez trying to minimise his involvement with his girlfriend's death, but Police aren't buying it.

This is part two of our look into the I-10 freeway shootings, which took place between August 29 and September 16, 2015.

Phoenix Arizona was a state in fear after several cars were struck by bullets. Investigators believed they had found the man behind the shootings -- twenty-one-year-old Leslie Merritt.

He was arrested and the following day, police announced that Merritt's gun had been matched to four of the eleven shootings.

They charged him with 15 criminal charges linked to the shootings.

On 23 December 2006 twenty-one-year-old Heather Quan spent the day with her boyfriend Ryan Waller.

Christmas was two days away and the pair wanted to spend the holiday season together. Yet when Heather didn't return home for Christmas, and neither she nor her boyfriend answered the phone when her family rung, police were sent to their home late that evening to check on them.

When police entered, Heather was dead on the lounge. She had been shot. Ryan was conscious but he refused to explain what had happened. Ryan Waller was arrested on the spot. His clothes, still spattered with blood were taken as evidence and he was left in the back of a police car for 6 hours before his interrogation eventually began.

On the evening of May 19, 1983 Diane Downs pulled up to the McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Springfield Oregon and calmly asked for help, claiming someone had just shot her and her children in an attempted carjacking.

Police were soon on the scene and the evidence in the car did not match Downs' story. There was no gunshot residue nor blood spatter that could corroborate her story. After a 9 month investigation she was finally arrested on February 28, 1984.

Known as the Genese River killer, Arthur Shawcross was a child killer, a serial killer, a rapist, and a cannibal.

His first kills were two children, a boy and a girl.

After only serving14 years, Shawcross was released in April 1987 and it would only be a year before he began to kill again. Between March 1988 and December 1989 Shawcross murdered at least 12 young women before a witness saw him at the scene of the last victim and he was reported to police.

This is part 2 in our psychological profile of Stephen McDaniel.

Sometime after the evening of June 25, 2011 — 25-year-old Stephen McDaniel murdered fellow student and neighbour 27-year-old Lauren Giddings in Macon Georgia. McDaniel had stalked Lauren for months leading up to the murder and even helped in the search for the woman prior to her body being found.

During the search for Lauren, McDaniel was interviewed extensively by local media, he was chatty and expressing concern for his missing friend.

It would be a very different McDaniel who would later be interviewed by Detective David Patterson. In the tapes we’ve seen so far McDaniel is almost catatonic, giving only basic yes/no answers to questions.

The body of Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard was found murdered in her Missouri home on June 14, 2015.

She had been stabbed to death and had died several days before she was found. Police had gone to the home, following several strange facebook posts on Dee Dee’s facebook page.

Police, not finding Gypsy Rose, Dee Dee’s mentally and physically handicapped daughter, they feared that she may have been kidnapped. The day after the discovery of Dee Dee’s body, Gypsy Rose was found, in the company of her online boyfriend, Nick Godejohn. She confessed to not having any of the disabilities her mother had claimed that she had, and in particular she could walk.

S09E03 The Claremont Serial Killer - Bradley Edwards Sep 29, 2020

The arrest came spectacularly and almost out of the blue, almost 20 years after the disappearances and murders of three women in Claremont, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Bradley Robert Edwards was arrested on December 22, 2016 and charged with two of the murders. That of Jane Rimmer and Keira Glennon.

On September 24, 2020, almost four years after his arrest, Edwards was found guilty of the murders of Jane and Keira as well as other assault and related charges. He was found not guilty of the suspected murder of his first victim, Sarah Spiers.

Then, a replay of our original profile of Nilsen from Season 4 to refresh your memory.

Dennis Nilsen was a Scotsman living in Britain who murdered 15 men over a four year period.

The low ranking civil servant kept his victims’ bodies for days, often sleeping next to them, before finally disposing of them when they began to smell.

He disposed of those bodies by either torching them or flushing them down the toilet.

On June 4, 2008, thirty year old Travis Alexander was murdered by his ex-girlfriend Jodi Arias. They had spent part of the day together, they had sex and took photos of each other. Once they were finished, Travis headed to the shower where Arias took several more photos before she attacked. Travis was stabbed at least 27 times with a knife that severed his carotid (artery, his jugular vein and his throat. He also sustained numerous defense injuries to his hands as he tried to fight off Arias. As he slumped in the bottom of the shower, Arias shot him in the head.

S08E08 Richard Ramirez PLUS Joseph James DeAngelo (Golden State Killer), Dutch Torture Chamber, Aaron Glee Jr. & Peter Dupas Jul 19, 2020

This week on Monsters Who Murder we examine the various media interviews conducted with Richard Ramirez following his capture. Ramirez was known as the Night Stalker, but he is not to be confused with the recently caught killer, Joseph D’Angelo known as the Original night stalker (among other monikers).

Ramirez raped, tortured and murdered at least 14 victims over a 16 month period between April 1984 and August 1985. His youngest victim, was also his first. 9 year old Mei Leung was raped, beaten, stabbed and then hanged. The girl’s murder was only linked to Ramirez in 2009, yet a bombshell was dropped when a second person’s DNA was also found connected to the Leung crime scene.

Following Leung’s murder, Ramirez travelled across California where he would usually murder people in their homes after breaking in to rob them. Most of the women were raped and one elderly woman was even stomped to death by the killer.

On June 17, 2015 twenty-one year old Dylann Roof walked into the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina where a bible reading class was being held and shortly afterwards opened fire. In the attack, Roof killed nine people and injured a tenth. He fled the scene, but many recognised the man and an A-P-B was put out on him.

Israel Keyes is an American serial killer, rapist, arsonist, burglar and bank robber. He was captured in 2012 over the murder of Samantha Koening.

In part 1 we listened as police investigators started their interrogation of Keyes over several days in what can only be described as a game of cat and mouse as Keyes refused to make it an easy win for detectives.

We now pick on on June 7, 2012 as Keyes is brought in for another interrogation. Again they go through the same information and his Miranda rights. He has in front of him a cup of coffee and a brown paper bag containing some food.

Todd Kohlhepp was convicted of murdering seven people in South Carolina between 2003 and 2016.

This is a case which broke after the MWM podcast started and one we've followed very closely when it was a missing persons case.

Kala Brown and Charlie “David” Carver had gone missing on August 31, 2016. As the family searched for them, Charlie’s Facebook page became active. Posing as David, Kohlhepp posted messages in response to questions by both families.

Police were able to trace the phone being used to post the messages but they were unprepared for what they found.

S07E02 'The Frankston Killer (Paul Denyer) PLUS California killer, William Tyrrell evidence AND Claremont Serial Killer Feb 19, 2020

Over a seven week period in mid 1993 twenty-one year old Paul Denyer stalked the women of Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne in Australia.

Denyer attacked and murdered three young women; Elizabeth Stevens, Deborah Fream and Natalie Russell over a 7 week period as part of a larger stalking campaign that began months earlier.

In February he had broken into a woman’s apartment and defiled the place, as well as prank calling the woman repeatedly. He had also killed the woman’s cat. He had ransacked other homes too before he progressed to murder. He had attempted to kill a fourth woman Rosca Toth, but she escaped Denyer who then found another victim that same night.

S07E01 The Toy Box Killer (David Parker Ray) + Long Island serial killer, Zodiac Killer, Claremont serial killer & The Bloody Bender's Feb 11, 2020

Our first psychological profile this season is on David Parker Ray, also known as the Toy Box Killer.

Although no bodies were ever found Ray was accused by his accomplices of killing several people but police believe the number could have been as high as 60.

Ultimately Ray was convicted of kidnapping and torture in 2001 and died shortly after of a heart attack.

Allan Legere escaped from a bathroom at a Canadian Hospital after being convicted of a crime he says he did not commit.

The killer had been transported to the hospital for an ear infection from prison where he was serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of convenience store owner John Glendenning.

Legere would be on the run for seven months, during which time he went on a frantic crime spree that resulted in the deaths of four people and the sexual assaulted of a fifth.

William MacDonald - “The Sydney Mutilator" Jan 14, 2020

On May 12, 2015, 90 year old William MacDonald died in the secure wing of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

At the time of his death he was the longest serving prisoner in a New South Wales Prison, however beyond aficionados of true crime, very few know his name or of the heinous crimes he committed that gave him the name “The Sydney Mutilator”.

Yet the strange way in which he was caught, should give him a greater place in infamy.

Thor Nis Christiansen was an American serial killer who murdered at least four people between 1976 and 1979 in California.

His method was to shoot his victims dead so he could then have sex with their dead bodies. At the time, the case created huge outrage and on his sentence to life imprisonment he feared for his life.

The threats were in fact real and after only a few months in Folsom State Prison he was stabbed to death in the exercise yard in March 1981. No-one has been charged with his death.

Arnold Sodeman was executed in Victoria’s Pentridge Prison in 1936 for the murders of at least four school girls between 1930 and 1935. He confessed to the four murders to police after 12 hours of interrogation.

At the time, police had arrested him for one murder, that of June Rushman, but when he was asked to write down what he had done to that victim, he replied with, “There is not only this one.”
